World Hijab Day
So as it's #WorldHijabDay, I figured it was a good opportunity to talk about my novel "Under The Full and Crescent Moon" which, as you can see features hijabis, and actually the characters do discuss the practice.
And you might say
What do I, as a man, have to say about hijab. And you would be right, I can only say that I am incredibly gratified that the novel has gotten very positive reviews from a lot of women including hijabis, and that honestly was a huge relief for me.
In fact the only really negative reviews have come from readers who have a very strict view of how Muslims should be, which is a little unexpected as the women in the imagined setting of a historical Muslim matriarchy go from not wearing the hijab at all at the start to mostly adopting it by the end.
So if you want to see how I managed that, then I hope you pick it up and give it a read for yourself. In the end what I'm proud of is that this is a story of a young woman growing up and defending her community with the power of fatwas and Islamic Law. It's available everywhere books are sold and support your local indie if possible!
